Galliano Sues Dior

John Galliano left Dior under a dark cloud in 2011 after a video of his anti-semitic rant went viral. It seems now he seeks to sue his former employer, LMVH, for 15 million euros.

Since his notorious dismissal – he admitted not recollecting the incident, and sought treatment in rehab for his alcohol addiction – Galliano has remained largely out of the fashion spotlight, designing Kate Moss’s wedding dress, but has been working with Oscar De La Renta in New York. Oscar confirmed the residency  ‘John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent,’ de la Renta futher added  ‘He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to reimmerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate in an environment where he has been so creative.’ De La Renta has not confirmed Galliano as his successor if he decides to retire. Many people have welcomed Galliano’s return to fashion including Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman who has called it ‘a magical match’. Dior have yet to confirm Galliano’s appearance in court.

However, it seems that Christian Dior Couture is not suffering too badly since Galliano departed. Raf Simons, former Creative Director at Jil Sander, took the helm at Dior after the return of the eponymous designer to her label. Reports reveal that sales of Dior couture have soared since Simons’ first collection, with total sales for the year equating to £1.07 billion.
