Pyjama Party… in Public?

Wouldn’t it be amazing if wearing pyjamas in public was socially acceptable?

Imagine a night out without worrying about a drunken wardrobe malfunction (yep, flashing your knickers), or a dinner party where you can sit in comfort without being tortured by your own outfit after one too many potato wedges?

Thanks to an array of sleepwear inspired pieces sweeping across catwalks everywhere, we can finally party in comfort AND style, with designers from Stella McCartney to Hermes showcasing their low maintenance eveningwear on the SS12 catwalks.

At Stella McCartney, light materials gave a relaxed vibe amongst the collection. However, these were teamed with strong prints and sharp tailoring to create a fierce yet elegant take on the pyjama trend, reminding us that these pyjamas are supposed to be shown to the world, not the bedroom. Accessories and makeup were kept to a minimum with nude shoes and slicked back hair, letting paisley and monochrome prints take centre stage.

Haider Ackermann’s quirkier approach to the trend was displayed with a combination of victorian inspired hues and sculptured silk incorporated into the upper half, which was paired with the traditional checkered pyjama pant and casual brogues. Tousled hair and sultry eyes took the catwalk back to the eighties, completing the ensemble with a punk-rock touch.

At Richard Nicoll, pastel colours and dreamy textures were part of a simpler pyjama style, with a low maintenance, softer feel. However, cat-eye flicks and pointed heels showed that this collection is anything but innocent, proving that with the right tools, you can adjust a simple pyjama inspired outfit to suit any persona.
