Top of the Lake: Downright weird or pure genius?

Gossipdrip was more than excited when the Mad Men actress and classic beauty Elisabeth Moss (playing the determined Peggy Olson) was starring in the new drama Top of the Lake which airs on BBC2. Robyn Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) plays a police officer returning home to see her dying mother, who is reeled back into town life though the suspicious pregnancy of a 12 year old girl Tui, (Jacqueline Joe).

The most striking element of the hit television show, bar the female commune, ingrained misogyny and random sexual encounters is the beauty of the landscape, shot in Queenstown and Glenorchy, New Zealand. The stark contrast between the rabid masculine force encompassed into Matt Mitcham (Peter Mullan), the local criminal and the beauty of the surroundings causes a jolt in the audience. A landscape with so much natural beauty, it is almost unfathomable to imagine that such contempt between humans could be possible.

If you are looking for something a bit unusual, testing and intriguing then Top of the Lake is something you should be watching!
