John Mayer has publicised his humiliation and upset by ex’s Taylor Swift’s song Dear John.

The fling of the pair was mentioned through her song, which was released in 2010, and John has finally opened up about it – and it’s not pretty. Lyrics of the track included ‘Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with?’.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, he said that the release of the song was the first time her feelings were made apparent.

“I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”

Taylor Swift is well-known for documenting her encounters with men through her songs, which isn’t unusual in the music industry. Adele also made her mark, by creating an album of a previous break up. However Mayer believes its ‘cheap songwriting’.

“I will say as a songwriter that I think it’s kind of cheap song writing,” he says. “I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bullsh*t.”

Eeeeeek! So what do we think? Is it right to slander a previous relationship on such a high scale and is it worth doing to make ourselves feel better after being treated badly?
