Introducing MOYA, a 21 year old singer and songwriter from Brighton, UK.

How did you first get into music?

When I was very young we had a vinyl record player in our dining room and I was absolutely in awe of this thing; I couldn’t quite get how a disc could play such beautiful sounds. From then on I was hooked on music. My house was constantly filled with the sounds of Stevie Wonder and show tunes and all I wanted to do was learn all the lyrics and sing along to them.

Who are your influences?

My influences definitely date back to the sounds of my childhood, a mixture between Motown, jazz and funk. I loved and still love how that kind of music can dig deep down into your soul.

Tell us about your debut single

My debut single Telling Tales is all about growing up and following your own path. We all get taught to do things in a certain way but its for ourselves to choose the way that is right for us. It’s a song that you can kick back to on a summers day or when you’re driving in your car that will make you feel motivated and ready to conquer the world.

Any future gigs?

I’ve just recently moved to Brighton to start gigging so we’re currently getting the band together, shouldn’t be long now!

Why do you love what you do?

I find music extremely therapeutic, it gets me through the worst and best of times, so to be able to make music that will do that for others, then that’s all I can ask for. I’ve honestly had the best 6 months so far this year and hopefully the highs will keep on coming.
