Olympic Fashion File: The US

With less than a month to go until the 2012 Olympics kick off in London, I will be doing a fashion file on some of the competing countries so that you can check out what trends the supporters may be rocking and what labels they may be wearing. We shall began with the good old United States of America…

New York is already a hotspot for fashion with Los Angeles not far behind so we can expect a tirade of fashionistas supporting Michael Phelps in the swimming.

reedUS fashion appears to have also been impacted by the ‘Kate effect’ as it begins to become more chic, prim and proper in American designers’ 2013 resort collections. Take this dress by Reed Krakoff. It’s simple and elegant. Notice how the top half is nude coloured – a trend dominating US catwalks. What I love about nude is how sophisticated it looks and it also has the ability to match with anything. New York’s perfectly polished fashion pack have been completing their lady-like look with kitten heels. I already own a pair of kitten heels (mainly down to the fact I can’t handle many heels much higher than that) and they never seem to leave my feet! They are perfect to wear day or night and add a sophisticated edge to any outfit.
Some US designers and those who are regulars on the US fashion circuit haven’t been afraid to make their own mark on this seemingly British look.

1. Rag & Bone 2. 3.1 Phillip Lim 3. Bally 4. DVF

Throwing on a leather jacket as Rag & Bone have presented gives this innocent, girly dress a sharper edge. 3.1 Phillip Lim has clearly thought more about the London weather by adding an anorak – yep, that’s right! An anorak! (They’re actually quite stylish now!) – to the mix. The outfit is then brightened up by a splash of aqua and though the outfit remains chic and simple, it’s sure to make you stand out. Bally and DVF have gone for the all over nude colour scheme having DVF‘s slouchy jacket and Bally‘s boxy blazer mean both outfits ooze coolness.

Of course not everyone is going to be sporting designer labels so let’s take a look at what US fashion powerhouse Forever 21 have in store for us. Tribal prints, short shorts and mock turtleshell sunnies are the latest treats the shop are providing us with as well as trilby hats…which raised my eyebrows. Despite the skimpy shorts, the structures of the dresses and skirts are a lot more loose and floaty, proving that they have also been hit by the Kate effect too!

To finish off, let’s pay tribute to some of America’s most stylish!
