She Runs The World: Beyonce is Back

This year is going to be HUGE for Beyonce. After having a year off since giving birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy, Beyonce has announced a new album with Destiny’s Child, a fresh album of her own, a documentary, and of course a performance at the Superbowl on Feb 3rd.

Beyonce kicked things off by singing The Star Spangled Banner at Obama’s inauguration on January 21st, wearing a sumptuous black Emilio Pucci gown and emerald earrings worth a cool $1.8 million. She stunned the nation when she apparently lip-synched, although this hasn’t been confirmed, but anyone who has seen B perform live knows the merit of her vocal chords.

Queen B was the cover star for February’s GQ after a smouldering photoshoot with Terry Richardson. Wearing skimpy outfits, including leopard print knickers, Beyonce displayed her famous curves in the sexy shoot which demonstrated her return to music, and she acknowledged the influence that she exudes as phenomenal, ‘When I was writing the Destiny’s Child songs, it was a big thing to be that young and taking control. And the label at the time didn’t know that we were going to be that successful, so they gave us all control. And I got used to it. It is my goal in life to be that example. I now know that, yes, I am powerful. I’m more powerful than my mind can even digest and understand.’ She has no plans to slow down, so it’s no wonder she’s thrown herself back into work wholeheartedly, by musing that she loves her job, ‘but it’s more than that; I need it. Because before I gave birth, it was the only time in my life, all throughout my life, that I was lost.’

With the Superbowl on Sunday, pictures have been released this week of Beyonce looking beautifully fresh-faced in rehearsal. There are huge rumours circulating about the performance, the biggest of those is that it will bring forth a reunion with her Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. It’s been six years since the trio performed together, and Us Weekly has revealed a secret set list this week, which reportedly confirms their involvement. A medley of songs such as Survivor and Bills, Bills, Bills having made the cut. Although Michelle Williams has denied the claims, stating she’s performing in Fela!, she’s mysteriously absent from performances on Sunday. Although Beyonce has no tour or new album to promote currently, her deal with Pepsi, the half-time sponsor,  is said to be a reported $50 million.

The most anticipated aspect of her return is her autobiopic – Life Is But A Dream. The documentary, commissioned by HBO, will be screened on February 16 and is a peek into the private sphere of Beyonce’s personal life. Notoriously super private about her marriage to Jay-Z and subsequent pregnancy, the documentary appears to give a pared-down snapshot into her day-to-day routine, featuring clips of her pregnant stomach and Blue Ivy’s scans.

Although it’s only just begun, 2013 looks set to be the year Queen B reignites her flame.
