Yves Saint Laurent eyeshadow inspired by Facebook is a sellout

Yes, you’ve read that right. Beauty giants Yves Saint Laurent have created a eyeshadow palette inspired by social networking site Facebook. The limited edition palette named ‘Devoted to Fans #1’ will feature four colours synonymous of the trademark blue, black, grey and white associated with Facebook. And it was a hit.

Demonstrating the growing trend of using social media to connect with consumers, the palette was only available to fans of the Yves Saint Laurent Fragrances & Beauty page on Facebook. Described as ‘a true declaration of love to all his fans’ the palette sold out in a matter of hours with only 1650 available worldwide.

Yves Saint Laurent are marketing this as a ‘reward’ for social media fan’s loyalty. It retailed for the same ¬£39 price tag as the standard Yves Saint Laurent Pure Chromatics Eyeshadow quads, which for such a rare item is not half bad. The namesake ‘Devoted to Fans #1’ indicates¬† more Facebook inspired releases may appear in the future. And with the success of the first palette, why not?
